Another good resource is Ravina Project http://www.theravinaproject.org. They provide real-life solar historical data for their location (Toronto, Riverdale if I'm not wrong) for the last few years!

I'm not sure what the excessive costs were from just yet.
I have to get my next bill but I am betting it had to do with the heaters running at full tilt for the couple days.
Will also have to see how it runs for a couple months.
Problem is that we are heading into the warmer months so I won't get a feel for the costs until winter again.

Yeah they spoke about the "Making money" but frankly I am only interested in producing as much as I use or even 75%.
I wouldn't do this for the idea that one day I could support myself with my electrical winnings :D

Thank you for the links, I contacted WISE a few weeks ago through their email but they haven't got back to me yet.

I am going to the green show next weekend in Toronto so maybe I can get some ideas and meet a few more solar companies as well.

Hi! Did you find the cause of the excessive electricity bill? I'm really interested if it's something wrong in your installation :-)

Beware that the 46 cents (indeed, the proposed one is 80c, see http://www.ourpower.ca/Post.aspx?portalid=25&postid=110) are only for what you **exceed** your own consumption. That's why it's called "net metering". So if your panels generate in a month less electricity than you use, you'll see no money for the generated electricity! You basically "deposited" some electricity in the grid during sunny times, "cashed" it back and more nightly and in cloudy weather. It's still good, because you don't need the batteries to store the "overproduction" during the day.

I can recommend to take a look at RISE and WISE websites, e.g. http://riseagain.ourpower.ca/Portal.aspx?portalid=1 . They do "solar tours" in Toronto from time to time, and you can see installations and talk to the owners about real-world experiences. In my opinion, it's well worth 2 hours of your time. They also have a list of recommended suppliers, which were selected by the community.

Thanks for the compliment.

I still don't know what to do with mine as I am all over the place. Sure I have a lot of posts about my installation at my house but not sure if I will keep talking about that forever though :D

-Takes away your civil right to object to any infrastructure project proposed for your neighbourhood regardless of impact on you and your family.
-Strips municipalities of their planning protection rights, effectively re-zones all of Ontario into an Industrial zone.
-Severely curtails environmental rights.
-Eliminates the need for proper Environmental Assessment thus putting Threatened and Endangered Species at risk.
-Eliminates previously protected designated Green Spaces and gives them to Industrial Wind Turbine developers.
-Excludes Ontarians from any say or objection in the establishment or location of industrial wind turbine plants.
-Systematically Silences Ontario citizens .
-Fails to address health issues or any impacts on residents whatsoever
-Bestows the Energy “Czar” power over pricing and procurement.
-Awards aid to commercial wind-turbine developers, whose profits will come exclusively from public funds (guaranteed 20 years).
-Enacts a ”reverse onus” clause whereby developers will no longer be accountable, but rather it is the “victim” who must prove harm by doing their own costly environmental assessment. The victim is allowed only 15 days to complete.
-Infringes on our right to fair government, health and safety, and erodes trust and checks and balances in the system.
-Raises your electricity bill by an estimated 30%
Search and Seizure - Grants the government the right to enter a place of business without a warrant to ensure conformance to energy audit standards with fines of up to $25,000.

The house size is twenty four hundred square feet.
Just seems a little over what I was being told and something just doesn't seem right.

I have a five year plan where in five years I would use the half of the loan I paid off to setup solar panels and take a load off my power usage.
Looks like I might have to step that plan up a few years as I would rather be paying $300 a month to a loan that ends then to pay Enersource for $300 for the next five years :(

I was so not ready to make this move to solar and a buddy of mine said in five years the technology would be better where the costs would be lower. Haven't even begun to look into this option other than reading about it.
Man oh man :(

When the expert comes, ask him if there is any LED light that goes on when the electric heater works. It's good to know where to look if the heater is ON or OFF. Do you have the user manual? If not, you can probably somewhere on the internet. It may worth to check the Troubleshooting section. The $300 amount is what I would need to heat my whole house using only electricity (of course, it depends on the house size, age and build quality), so maybe the heater is stuck on working position.
